Smart Links

Page actions

Add a signup form, a pre-order button, or a donation button underneath the streaming buttons on your release pages.

A smart link page sends fans out to streaming services. Page actions are what you add underneath that, so the page can also do something for you: collect an email address, sell the vinyl, take a tip, or point at anything else you want.

You can set page actions once for every smart link, and then override them on a single release when that release needs something different.

  1. Go to My Website then Page actions.
  2. Under Page type, click Smart links.
  3. Click Add action and pick the type you want.
  4. Fill in its fields.
  5. Click Save.

Everything you add here appears on every smart link page you have, including ones you make later. That makes it the right place for a standing ask, like your newsletter signup.

Setting them for one release

  1. Go to My Website then Smart Links.
  2. Click Edit on the link you want.
  3. Scroll to the bottom, to the Page actions for this music link card.
  4. Click Customize for this music link.
  5. Add the actions you want and click Save.

The card tells you which state you are in. Before you customize it says the link is using your smart links' default calls to action. Once you have, it says the link overrides them.

An override replaces the default, it does not add to it

Once a release has its own actions, the site-wide ones stop appearing on that page. If you still want the newsletter signup there, add it to the override too.

To undo an override, click Reset to default on the same card. That release goes back to whatever your smart links default is.

The types of action

Each action you add starts with a dropdown for its type. Pick a different type and you get a different set of fields.

Newsletter signup

An email capture form on the page. You choose:

  • Email list the sign-ups go to.
  • Title and Description shown above the form.
  • Button text.
  • Success message the fan sees after signing up.
  • Ask for name and Ask for phone, off by default.

This is the most common thing to put on a release page. Someone who just tapped Spotify is about as warm as an audience gets. See Email lists.

Lead magnet

The same idea, but the fan gets something in exchange for their address. You choose:

  • Lead magnet to deliver.
  • Email list the sign-ups go to. Leave it empty and they go to your default list.
  • Title, Description, Button text, and Success message.
  • Ask for name and Ask for phone.

See Lead magnets.

Offer / buy button

A single buy button for one product. You choose the Product and the Button text. Good for a vinyl pre-order or a single piece of merch tied to the release.

Products

A row of product cards. You choose:

  • Title above the row.
  • Products to show, picked one at a time and draggable into the order you want. Leave it empty and your newest products show automatically.
  • Columns on desktop. Phones always show one card per row.

Donation button

A button that opens a donation. You choose the Donation and the Button text.

Membership tiers

Your membership tiers, laid out on the page. You choose the Heading above them. See Memberships.

A plain button pointing anywhere. You choose the Text and the URL. Use it for anything the other types do not cover, like a tour page or a video.

Ordering, turning off, and removing

Each action sits in its own card with three controls in the corner:

  • Up and down arrows move it. The order here is the order on the page.
  • The bin icon removes it.

Each card also has an Enabled switch. Turning it off keeps the action and its settings but takes it off the page, which is much friendlier than deleting a form you spent time on and want back next month.

Click Save when you are done. Nothing is saved until you do.

How many to add

Fewer than you think. A fan who reaches your release page came to listen, and every extra block sits between them and the streaming buttons on the way back up.

One action is usually right. Two is the most that stays comfortable on a phone. If you find yourself adding a third, that is a sign the release page is being asked to do a job that belongs on your website.
