Certificates

Design a certificate, attach it to a course, and let TribeNest issue it automatically when a student finishes.

Finishing a course deserves something a student can keep and show off. TribeNest can hand every student a certificate of completion, designed by you, issued automatically the moment they finish, and verifiable by anyone who wants to check it is real.

There are two halves to this: the templates you design, and the issued certificates that come out of them.

Designing a certificate template

  1. Go to Courses in your dashboard sidebar, then click Certificate templates.
  2. Click New template.
  3. Fill in the left-hand side of the editor while the right-hand side shows a Live preview that updates as you type:
    • Template name, for your own reference, like "Course completion".
    • Preset, one of Classic, Modern or Elegant. This sets the overall look.
    • Title, the big line on the certificate. It starts as "Certificate of Completion".
    • Body text, the sentence underneath.
    • Accent color, picked with the color swatch or typed in.
    • Logo and Signature image, both uploaded from your computer.
    • Signature name and Signature title, for example your name and "Instructor".
    • Set as default, which makes this the template used when a course has not picked one.
  4. Click Save.

Filling in each student's details

The Body text can carry placeholders that get replaced with each student's own details when their certificate is made. Click any of the buttons under the box to drop one in:

  • {{recipient_name}}, the student's name.
  • {{course_title}}, the course they finished.
  • {{completed_at}}, the date they finished.
  • {{verification_code}}, the code anyone can look their certificate up by.
  • {{score_percent}}, their score.

The default body reads: "This certifies that {{recipient_name}} has successfully completed {{course_title}} on {{completed_at}}."

Editing and deleting templates

Every template is a card on the Certificate templates page, showing a small preview and a Default badge where it applies. Use the three-dot menu to Edit or Delete it.

Deleting a template stops future certificates

Courses using a deleted template stop issuing certificates automatically. Certificates that have already gone out are unaffected: students keep them and they still verify.

Attaching a certificate to a course

  1. Go to Courses, then Courses, and open the course (use Manage Course on the three-dot menu).
  2. Scroll to the Completion certificate card at the bottom of the page.
  3. Pick a template from the list, or choose No certificate to turn issuing off.
  4. Click Save.

If you have not made a template yet, the card links you straight to where you create one.

When a certificate is issued

A student's certificate is issued automatically the moment they complete the course. Completing means they have marked every lesson in the course finished. In a cohort, that means every lesson in their cohort's material.

The moment that happens, TribeNest:

  • creates the certificate and renders it as a PDF, and
  • emails it to the student with a Download Certificate button and their verification code.

You do not have to do anything.

Attached a template after people already finished?

Open the course and click Backfill completions. TribeNest re-checks every enrollment on that course, marks anybody who has finished as complete, and issues their certificates. It tells you how many enrollments it looked at and how many were newly completed.

Issued certificates

Go to Courses, then Issued certificates, for every certificate you have ever handed out. The table shows:

  • Recipient, their name and email address.
  • Code, the verification code baked into their certificate.
  • Status: Issued, Rendering while the PDF is being made, or Revoked.
  • Issued, the date.

The three-dot menu on each row gives you:

  • Download PDF, to open the student's certificate yourself.
  • Verify page, which opens the public verification page for that code.
  • Reissue, which renders the certificate again. Useful after you have changed the template's design.
  • Revoke, for a certificate that should no longer stand.

Revoking is public and permanent

A revoked certificate's verification page says so, honestly, to anyone who looks it up. You cannot un-revoke one, though you can issue a fresh certificate afterwards.

There is also an Issue manually button for handing a certificate to one specific enrollment. It asks for that enrollment's ID, so most of the time you will want Backfill completions on the course instead.

Verification

Every certificate carries a verification code, and every code has a public page that anyone can open: a student, an employer, a collaborator. The page confirms the recipient, the course, the date it was issued, and whether it has been revoked. It never exposes the PDF itself or the student's email.

That page is public and search-engine friendly on purpose. Certificates are only worth something if a stranger can check them.
