Creating a collection

Spin up a new collection in seconds — give it a name, choose its kind, and you're ready to design its fields.

A collection is a container for a set of similar items — all your lawyers, all your recipes, all your venues. Creating one is the first step; you'll design its fields and add entries right after.

Create your first collection

  1. Go to CMS then Collections.
  2. Click New collection.
  3. Give it a Name — this is what you'll see in the dashboard, like "Lawyers" or "Recipes".
  4. Choose a Kind (more on this below).
  5. Click Create.

That's it. TribeNest opens your brand-new collection straight to the field builder, because a fresh collection has no fields yet — and you can't add entries until it does. Head to Designing your fields next.

Starting from an empty screen?

Before you've made any collections, the Collections page shows a friendly empty state with a New collection button and a few example ideas — a lawyers directory, a team roster, a resource library — to get you going.

Choosing a kind

When you create a collection, you pick one of two kinds. This is set once, at creation.

  • Entity — items with their own pages. Choose this for the main things you're publishing: the lawyers, the recipes, the venues. Each entry can be browsed and viewed on its own.
  • Taxonomy — tags or terms that other collections point to. Choose this for a supporting list — say, "Practice Areas" or "Cuisines" — that you want to reuse across many entries rather than show off on its own.

If you're not sure, start with Entity. Most collections are entities. You'd only reach for a taxonomy once you notice you're repeating the same set of labels and want them managed in one place.

Finding your collections later

Back on the main Collections page, every collection you've made appears as a card showing its name and a quick summary — how many fields it has and how many entries it holds. Taxonomy collections are marked with a small taxonomy label so they're easy to tell apart.

Click any collection to jump straight to its entries — the main place you'll work day to day.

Renaming and settings

Open a collection and click Settings to rename it or adjust its web address.

  • Name — change it any time; it's just the label you see.
  • Slug — the short piece of text used in the public web address for this collection and its entries.

Changing the slug moves your links

The slug is part of the public web address for every entry in the collection. If you change it, existing links — ones people have shared, bookmarked, or found through search — will stop working. Set the slug thoughtfully early on, and change it later only if you really need to.
