Local recordings

While you're broadcasting, TribeNest can also save your camera and microphone straight to the computer you're streaming from. Those files are the best-looking version of your performance, because they never had to travel anywhere. They're what you want if you plan to edit the show into clips later.

They also make a safety net: if the broadcast goes wrong, or a tab closes before an upload finishes, the files are still sitting on your machine.

Turning it on

1. In the studio, click the chevron next to Go Live.
2. Click Local Recording so a tick appears next to it.
3. Go live as normal.

A pulsing red REC appears in the header next to the LIVE badge for as long as the show runs.

Guests record too

When local recording is on, everyone in the studio is capturing their own camera and microphone on their own machine, not just you. That's what makes it worth switching on for interviews and panels: each person's take is clean, rather than everyone sharing one mixed picture.

Guests see a note in their studio while it's running, asking them to stay connected after the stream ends so their files can finish uploading, or to download them and send them to you. Worth saying out loud before you end the show, because a guest who closes the tab at "goodbye" leaves their take on their own computer.

Uploading after the show

When you click End Live with local recording on, a Recordings window opens by itself and starts uploading. Each take is listed with a player so you can check it before it goes.

• Leave the window open until it finishes. It says Please do not close window until upload is complete while it's working, and Upload successful when it's done.
• If something goes wrong you'll see an error with a Retry button.
• Click Download To My Computer at any point to save the files yourself instead of (or as well as) uploading them.

Once uploaded, the takes are attached to the broadcast and available from its Recordings menu on the broadcasts page.

If you close the window too early, an upload icon appears in the studio header while files are still waiting. Click it to reopen the Recordings window and finish the job.

The Local Recordings page

Everything captured on this computer is listed under Live Stream then Local Recordings, whether or not it's already been uploaded.

The table shows:

• File: the file name, which includes who recorded it and when.
• Type: whether it's video or audio.
• Size: how big the file is.
• Recorded: how long ago it was captured.

Each row has a menu with three actions:

• Preview: play the file right there in a window, in a video or audio player depending on what it is.
• Download: save the file to your computer's downloads.
• Delete: remove it from this computer for good.

Deleting asks you to confirm first, and tells you plainly that anything already uploaded to a broadcast stays available there. Only the copy on this machine goes.

Recovering a show that went wrong

This page is the reason local recording is worth switching on.

If the broadcast froze, if the tab crashed, or if you closed everything before the upload finished, the files are still here. Open Local Recordings, preview them to check what survived, then Download what you need.

The files it lists are only from your live streams. Recordings from other parts of TribeNest are kept separately and don't appear here.

When the page says it can't help

If you see Local storage unavailable, your browser doesn't support the storage this feature needs. Try Chrome, Edge, or a recent Safari. If the page says No local recordings, nothing has been captured on this computer yet: switch Local Recording on before your next show.
